Dr Frank Arena is a consultant and procedural cardiologist. He is the founder and director of Scientia Medical Heart Clinic. He is a caring and compassionate doctor who brings a unique blend of clinical skills and life experience to his consulting.
Graduating with Honours from the University of New South Wales Medical School, Dr Arena was the recipient of the 2/5 Australian General Hospital prize for academic excellence in his studies. He underwent elective study in Reconstructive Surgery in Bologna, Italy (Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic) and Cardiology in London, England (St Georges Hospital).
Initially, he began his specialist career as a surgical trainee at Liverpool Hospital and excelled in his operative skill. He was invited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to instruct in their surgical skills courses.
Dr Arena has suffered through several family hardships as a result of heart disease and understands the concerns and issues his patients and their families face on a personal level. As a result, he resigned as a surgical trainee and began pursuing a career in Cardiology. He completed his initial physicians training at Prince of Wales Hospital before undergoing advanced training in Cardiology at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Dr Arena is happy to manage all cardiovascular conditions. His practice consists of patients with a variety of conditions from congenital heart disease, cardiac failure and transplantation, rhythm disorders, structural heart disease and coronary artery disease. He currently practices as a Visiting Medical Officer at North Shore Private Hospital and Sydney Adventist Hospital where he performs his procedural work. He is accredited as a specialist in CT coronary angiography.
As a keen teacher, Dr Arena has been actively involved in medical student education and examination. He has held faculty appointments with the University of New South Wales Medical School as a Junior Lecturer for the Pathology curriculum at the Kensington campus, Clinical Associate Lecturer in the discipline of Surgery at the Southwest Sydney Clinical School (Liverpool Hospital) and a Clinical Associate Lecturer in the discipline of Medicine at the Sydney Southeast Clinical School (Prince of Wales Hospital). He has presented clinical research at both the National and International level.
